Student ID cards are available for collection from AskACU. To arrange your card you will need to order one through the CaptureME website. Be sure you have access to photo identification (Driver’s licence or passport) and a passport style photograph suitable for professional identification to complete the process. Selfies are acceptable, provided that students look presentable, and no filters have been used.
A Unit Outline is provided for each unit you undertake. It contains the expectations related to the unit, including attendance, assessments, reading and referencing. A summarised task description and rubric for your written assessments is included, as is the contact details for staff teaching into the unit and who to contact with various enquiries. Your Unit Outline is available on the unit’s Canvas page.
Requirements and expectations for your classes will vary, and these will be stated on Page 2 of the Unit Outline for each subject (under the sections labelled Mode, Attendance Pattern, and Duration) along with what to do if you need to miss a class. Lectures at ACU are also recorded, so you can watch these again when it suits you best. Students are encouraged to attend in person whenever they can, as this provides a valuable learning experience and an opporunity to connect with peers.

Most courses will use one style throughout their degree, though this may not always be the case. Referencing requirements are found toward the back of the Unit Outline, after the Assessment Strategy and Rationale. For guidance on the relevant style for you, explore the ACU Library's referencing resources.
Every effort is made to avoid clashes in student timetables, but these will sometimes occur. Students should speak to AskACU if this happens, for help understanding the nature of the clash and where to go next for help resolving it.
This really depends on your unit. In general, practical classes and workshops can be thought of in similar terms. Both are more interactive than a lecture and will involve more hands-on approach for learning. Although the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, practical classes are very much that – classes where you will engage with practical activities and hands-on learning that will assist you in gaining the skills you need to succeed. Some of these require specific attire for safety or practical reasons, so check this in your Unit Outline or with your lecturers.
Each unit at ACU comes with a unique identifier. The first portion of this, consisting of four letters, is the unit code. This tells you which subject the unit belongs to. The second portion is a three-digit number. From a student perspective, this number will tell you where the unit sits within your degree. As a rule, the first digit represents the year of the course in which a unit should be taken, and it is worth noting that many second-year units have prerequisites (i.e., certain ‘100 level’ units) that must be completed before these can be attempted.
Students should follow the course map for their degree unless they have spoken with their Course Coordinator and been given an approved alternative. This is important, because the sequence of units completed determines the progression through a degree. It might seem easier to drop a specific unit because it will improve your timetable or get you out of a tough class, but these alterations can impact your prerequisites, impeding your progress through subsequent semesters and causing further timetable issues down the track.

All ACU campuses have computers available for student use. These computers will provide access to the internet, your email and the systems you need to interact with across the university. Saving your work to a cloud-based service or to USB is a viable option, but students working across platforms (i.e., Mac to Windows) may note there are some formatting changes to be mindful of.
